room and down stairs and she took us through the cottages "Sunny side" "Fairview" & "Eastman". There wasn't time for the "Lella". Had supper & then Helen went to bed with a sick headache and Chattie and I had quite a talk about a new book she'd been reading "The Divine Fire" May 15 Monday J.G. & J.W. both in N.Y. where they meet the P.O. comm. tomorrow. Busy getting caught up. This p.m. rec'd a telegram from Miss G. advising me not to come yet, so I gave it up. Sewed tonight. May 16. Tuesday. An awful! day - or is it? One's 40th birthday ought to be; but I'm getting so I don't mind old age or pretend I don't, anyway. It began beautifully, as usual and everybody was nice to me - but I got pretty blue toward night tho' Chattie wrote me she was glad I was born, the dear! Went to see Jessie Bonesteel and Fredk' Lewis in "Imprudence" tonight, with Laura. The MacArthur's were there too. Good May 17-18 Wed-Thurs. Lovely May weather - with showers. Am getting caught up finely in my work, at last, perhaps its just as well I didn't go to N.Y. tho' I was disappointed. Nothing special happened. May 19. Friday Quite cold. Lunched with Helen today at the "Y" Mrs. Armstrong is to give her an emerald and diamond ring. Its at least the third! beside her watch and fob!! She was going to give a "party" to the "Y" girls this pm. & "Jane" helped. May 20 Sat. Lovely day, but still cool. J.G. & J.W. came home this p.m. They don't know yet - how the postal
