felt rather sad. Finally we heard the steamer, the
Moshers came rowing around the point with Carrie
Gould to go too, and when the "Mazeppa" landed, right there at
St. Helena rocks - it simply poured - so
we had rather a weepy goodbye. I was sorry that it had to be raining and cold
all down thro' the lovely island groups. We took an inside channel. Very
beautiful, even in the rain. The surveyor's camp looked so different - all
shops and dredges and things.
"Billy" Sing isn't there this summer, but somewhere up
Manitoba-way! We made a quick trip down to Depot
Harbor (and a cold one) ate lunch & Carrie
Gould's candies & talked to Mrs. Harry
Oldfield &c. Arrived at Parry Sound
actually in time to catch the "Majestic"! (tho' she's due to leave at 6:30 and
we to arrive at 8:30!) And found a stateroom on her, so left Carrie
Gould
there - to take the "Toronto" to Penetang
in the morning. We even had to climb thro' the "Majestic" to get out of the
"Mazeppe". We went to bed as soon as we could (couldn't get any more supper)
and
would have gone right to sleep except for an active "song
service" (Moody & Sankey) outside in the big cabin.
