Mrs. Colwell had a long conversation with an interesting French
priest (with a beard!) who'd been working among the Indians. Laura
and the steward (in the old Salvation crew man's hat) posed for me on the
lower deck and I Kodaked them. The steward besought us to send
him the picture to "W.A. Barker" Collingwood c/o "Midland". He
told us most of the waiters were college boys - one was studying to be a
priest. He looks it, but he's a good waiter. The boys sing afterwards when
they are cleaning up the tables &c. One has a fine soprano voice. We went on
deck again and thro' "Little Detroit" a very narrow passage, but
not particularly picturesque. Tho' the boat made many twists and turnings today
very interesting but "unphotographable" "Spanish River" was the
other side of "Little Detroit" and then we turned south, passed
light houses and reefs and down an open space into "Gore Bay" - with
high hills and most picturesque sur- roundings. Several boats were in there
freight boats, a private yacht The "Majestic" bound north &c. The dock was
quite gay. As usual, it was dinner time- we always eat at the interesting
places, seems to me. The early evening was lovely on deck. The sunset red.
There is no moon now. The air was heavy with fragrant wood smell -
