and played six handed euchre (tho' 2 of us had to sit on a bed) Then Mr. F.

went to get shaved and I kept score (all I could keep) while the rest played "five hundred". They finally all went up to the other Morrows to a farewell dinner & we said goodbye to Mr. F. & Mrs. Foster - who go back on the "Japan" tonight - toMackinac, and they take the "Tionesta". As soon as they were gone I got Laura to go with me and hunted up a doctor - Dr. Lyman - first at the Torrey Building and then out E. Superior St. at his home. I couldn't have stood it much longer - my blood was boiling. By the time we'd been to the drug store for the medicine (I went this a.m. for a gargle!) It was rather late for dinner but we had a very good and deliberate one and then went up to the "harbor view" room (and the harbor is certainly beautiful at night - and so is the hill) and I beat Laura very badly at "Flinch". Went to bed comparatively early, and it was a good thing, for about midnight we were awakened by a very hard thunder-storm with almost continuous lightning - and tho't of the Fosters - just sailing. Laid awake awhile after it lulled. It had rained all the p.m. & evening. Got letters today - the first ones!
