Stopped at Blind River before lunch. The dock was entirely surrounded by lumber piles and saw mills. Boys in canoes offered to take us fishing. Everything smelt "woody". We were indeed in the lumber region. After luncheon went out on the little deck in front of the bridge. It was fine (but hard to get at) Laura came too, and the Colwells. It was a beautiful afternoon - nice Island (but not nicer than "Mandalay" and "St. Helena".) beautiful vistas &c At "Algonia Mills" (nothing but a railroad dock) we knocked some shingles off of the deck house. Some freight cars had fallen off of the dock - one was still in the water and one had just been pulled out - still wet. Later we passed a wrecked freight boat too not far off the channel. We turned into a queer sort of a bay, went round a corner and landed at "John's Island" A funny horse was drawing a train of lumber cars on a trestle. He looked around in disgust - when his driver left him to see the boat come in - and then started on by himself. It was very funny, wish I could have got his picture. Everyone got off here and Kodaked the boat. I kodaked a small portion of them in the act!
