I came, & Mother & me & Con & Edith
Hillman
sitting on Behn's piazza, where I joined them.
Sat. July 16
Very beautiful day. Busy till 1:30! (J.W.
as usual) Went to Mae Stull's this p.m. Stopped for
Edith but didn't find her. Sat 5 minutes
with Lulu Graves Hardenbrook - (literally raised from the dead,
one might say) on their piazza. Say she feels "fine" (!) & automobiled
last night & ate peanuts, watermelons & lemonade at 11 p.m.! In May
she was resting on 14 pillows - having oxygen administered and her life given up by
several doctors, including her husband!!
Mae was packing to go South again for John to look at land in Virginia.
Edith came later & we sat on the piazza
& watched the lovely lake. After supper (which was
delicious) we had to retire behind the screens, the mosquitoes were so
voracious. Saw Alice
- also a few fire works, as we walked to the car. Came home sleepy but
the Hartigans whooped it up with talk laughter, piano &c.
till 1:30!!
Sun. July 17
A nice morning, but it grew very warm later. Got ready stocks &c. &c.
for my vacation. Wrote letters &c. till I got "all her up".! After dinner
lounged a little while with the HarpersPapa had brought from Cro'nest. After supper
Edith came up on her wheel. We sat out door
for coolth. Wrote a long time, later.
