", Papa & I walked to the
station & the doctortook Mother. It was a beautiful
afternoon & we enjoyed the ride down the valley very much. At
Avon we changed and it was rather hot and crowded. We
were both tired and I took a nap (with old
Zozie) before our late supper (about 10!) Went to bed
at 11:30. The cats were delighted to see us.!
Sept. 6. Tues.
Still lovely weather. Very busy at the office. Played Flinch in the evening with Mother.
Sept. 7. Wed.
Still fine. Louise Arnold (Jim's sister) and Lieut. Edward
Fenner (of the navy) were married tonight and
"Plantzi" came up from Buffalo and
staid all night here. Told us all about the pretty wedding.
Thurs. Sept. 8.
Looked like rain here, but didn't. Herma
&
Frieda slept here as they have company from
London, England - and are driving, eating, "bubbling" &c. all
the time.
Sept. 9. Friday.
Resumed my old custom of lunching at the "Y" - but not with
Helen today as Edith Scott & 3 of her friends came early to lunch & were
visiting at one. I had quite a visit with Christine
(who is most enthusiastic about St
Helena) upstairs & then a little visit with Helen, downstairs. Took a long walk out the
Avenue at 5:30 and back by car. Read "Harpers".
Sept. 10. Sat.
A nice "hazy-bright" autumn day. This afternoon (after 5) I rode out to call
on Mrs. DeGraff, but her husband said she was ill. So I rode on
out to the Country Club and sat on a stone wall among golden rod
and asters, watching Polo.
