Sept. 3. Sat. What with thunder showers &c. &c. didn't go to sleep till about 3. It didn't seem much cooler this morning either and there was another hard shower just before noon. Went right to the 4:30 train from the office. Mother was there (and Father) Train was crowded but we had a seat & kissed Papa goodbye (he's to tend cats till Monday morning) Flora Vogel sat in front of us and told us about the terrible storm last night down at the Vacation House &c. I read "Nanlanka". It got cooler. At Geneseo Josie Fielder Edsall & her cute little Charlotte (or "Bud", they call her) got on and we all got acquainted. It had almost cleared up and the valley was lovely. Dr. Andrews met us and Mrs. A. was waiting on the piazza, in a white dress, and Edith inside at the piano (in her red Challi) Mother and I dashed up and got the travel stains off and came down to one of Mannin's good suppers. Spent the evening visiting & hearing Edith sing and play, tho' she and I did take one stroll - for rolls, and the "down town" with the doctor. Had a nice letter from Mrs. Foster of Pittston. Sept. 4. Sun. Slept fine - was so tired last night. In the front room, with Mother. No rain this morn- ing, but rather cloudy. No church or anything to go to (Mother rather disappointed) She went with the Dr. on his visits and Edith and I
