of course couldn't do anything there. Very soon the N.Y. Life people and others who were burned out began coming up for offices and stores and all was ex- citement. The middle office moved into ours and work was begun on the partitions. Before noon negotiations were well under way to rent all our Main St. Stores to the Fraley - Carey Co. (Rochester Dry Goods Co.) and by 5 o'clock Sibley wanted them - and early this morning the Vacuum Oil co. did. The N.Y. Life "moved" into our temporary office. They had nothing to move, but borrowed a desk a typewriter and some chairs from us! It was really pitiful to see the people who came all thro' this and other days. Edith spent some of the morning at Lura's room but went to work at the "works" this p.m. Tonight the girls -Nellie, Mary, Lura and Laura - came up and played Flinch and we had a very good time - Mother played, so we had partners. I had sandwiches and chocolate. At noon I made the circuit of the fire district (a large one - outside the ropes) and took a few pictures - It was considered under control about noon - with the help of Buffalo, Syracuse.
