July 18 Monday
Still very warm, but a strong breeze blew in our north office windows and
saved our lives. Got down early and worked hard. After supper rode up to
Claude's & Char's. Mother was there & we had
a nice talk out under the trees. Claude told
me today about his dissolving with Con.
Oct. 1st. it's to be and will be a great relief in some ways. We like him but
not as a partner. Char showed me a lovely
letter Mrs. Dow wrote Jo
about
Harry & MacGonigle
's dissolving &c.
The Wilkinsons
are coming toCro'nest in August. Jim
is going abroad this fall. Claude's to lend
him some money - the dear. Mother & I
played Flinch late.
July 19. Tues.
Still very hot. J.W. wired Gilmore to stay over Sunday. Shopped a little. It
threatened showers tonight (late p.m.) but they were down by the lake
& it got cooler without raining very much.
July 20 Wed.
Cooler. A heavy shower about 5 soaked lots of white dresses, but it cleared in
time for me to ride home. Invited Lura to go
to the
National and see "Prince Karl" tonight A quiet
play, rather funny. Mr. Mc Allister looked very handsome as a German
prince & courier, but spoke with a "frightful" German accent - as
Gilmore wd. say. I enjoyed it - and
Lura's chocolates & the "coolth".
July 21 Thurs.
A lovely day, bright and sunny. Got down early did errands &c. And odds
& ends in the evening & played "Flinch" with
Mother.
Miss Dinehart made quite a call - outside -
tonight.
