and then to the bank, so I had no time for lunch!
Apr. 4 Tues.
The event of the day was a letter from
Alice Wolfe inviting me to come to
Pennaquid
next August! I oughtn't to - but "here's hopin"!
Apr. 5 Wed.
Very busy. Getting J.G. off to
Washington to- night. Miss
Flack and I were so busy we went over to the "Waldorf" (as
Gilmore calls the East Ave.
lunch room) to dinner. Laura
Hutchison (in her pink waist!) and Mary &
Nellie Mac came over and played Flinch & ate stuffed dates &c. It rained later.
Apr. 6 Thurs.Snow this morning! But it improved later. Went to
Cro'nest to dine tonight. Gellett Burgess is there and Dr.
Crapsey dined with us. He is very nice. Had a very nice time.
Ethel Mundy gave me a book plate she had
designed for Kath Wilkinson - with
"Carlie" on.
Gellett told us about the house he made of
packing cases (9 & 6 ft.) with stairs, across, windows, balconies &c. How
Beatrice Herfed
crawled up into it and couldn't get out till they took the roof off &c.
&c. How it was haunted by the ghost of a dead mosquito. &c. &c. He
also told about Miss Herfed's Post Office - & corresponding
paraphernalia - wax flowers, necktie cigars &c. &c. (a regular "monologue")
and the little theatre she has built - all com- plete - even to water boys and
men calling carriage numbers! She must be pretty rich (in two ways!).
Dr. Crapsey went
4/3/05
and then to the bank, so I had no time for lunch!
