8/12 "Lord & Lady Algy".
the band play once or twice. Saw all the Mac Arthur's but Mary who was staying home with Alice (Whitten) who has nervous prostration! Later went to the Hillman's to call on Herb's wife and "Bob
" (who was in bed) Had quite of a nice visit with Edith, Annie
, Herb and Con. Later "Flinch" with Mother! Aug. 12 Friday Feeling rather "rocky" today. It takes a little time to begin "gaining" after a vacation. Called on Chattie at the P.O. at noon, & lunched at Sibley's &c. Tonight went with the Bakers to see "Lord and Lady Algy" at the National. It wasn't bad. So sleepy. I do sleep. The big pine up by Cro'nest was struck by lightning tonight. Aug. 13 Sat. Lura's birthday. I gave her a "Tabard Inn" membership & book. Mary brought her a Jap fan. Mary looks first rate. She says she did want to meet us at Mackinaw the worst way. We planned to go to the park this p.m. but it rained. Mary came over at three tho' and spent the whole afternoon. We had a nice visit. She couldn't stay to tea. In the evening I did cash accts. & things. I find it was really cheaper for us to pay on fares from place to place - as Laura & I did, than to buy the round trip. Aug 14. Sun. A lovely day. I finished "Anne" this morning and took a nap after dinner. The Hillmans and Caswells came to supper (from a drive) Edith had a lie down. She looked very tired. "Bob
" was delighted with my little Burgess - house.
