Charlotte. The sunset was lovely (down by St. Bernard's) Walked up to Stull's but no one was home - so we sat on the steps on the bluff and watched the lovely lake in the moonlight for awhile. It was a perfect evening. Then home - bath - bed. Aug. 27 Sat. Busy morning and a perfect day. Miss Flack and I suddenly decided to take a voyage on the "Columbia" this last half holiday. I worked till 1:30 and hustled home to lunch & dress. Couldn't get Mother to go. Mrs. Flack, Miss Flack & her Aunt Mrs. Enos came and we "sailed" between 3 and 3:30 (had to wait for the engineer to get some tobacco or something) We sat on the "forward deck" (rather tiny, but better than the "Jessie") and it was really a most delightful trip. Tho' we got stopped in the wide waters by double canal boats being locked ahead &c. Saw people sketching (and took their view) and fishing &c. &c. The air and sky and landscape were all lovely. Had a nice luncheon, after we left Pittsford, and talked some of coming back by moonlight (as the boat was coming down) but were pretty tired & pretty cold and It was so late we decided not to. Mrs. Flack treated us to Soda water, but we didn't succeed in getting plain drinking water there. Our train was late and we
