1904
Feb. 27 Sat. Fine morning & very still. Almost unprecedented not to have a gale at the St. Paul St. corner - but it saved a good deal of property in Rochester. Vanderbilt,
our draughtsman, had all his architectural books burned. They were in Otis office in the Granite Bldg. He went in today (Climbing ladders some of the way.) Found nothing but the battered remains of a paint box in the still glowing embers of his books. Feb. 28. Sun. Another very busy day. Claude went to Castile, a "soft cloudy day." Home all day - too tired to "hip around" (as Edith says) Roasted the beef! Feb. 29. Mon. Was very very busy till 6:30. This is the extra grewsome day of the year - and it was queer. A heavy thunder and lightning storm in the midst of furious snow in the afternoon and a terrific blizzard - with wind - that stopped all the cars at night and quite used up Claude, coming from the Station - at night. I went to the Hillman's to dinner and had to phone home that I would stay all night. "Dooley", the cat entertained us beautifully (It was my first visit in the Mosher house), and We looked thro' a whole year of "Country Life". Con slept in "Dooley's" room and I in Edith's (there are two beds) and we had a burglar scare in the night - and smelled smoke (the fireplace!) and so on - all very thrilling and the usual absence of sleep!
