and then to the bank, so I had no time for lunch! Apr. 4 Tues. The event of the day was a letter from Alice Wolfe inviting me to come to Pennaquid next August! I oughtn't to - but "here's hopin"! Apr. 5 Wed. Very busy. Getting J.G. off to Washington to- night. Miss Flack and I were so busy we went over to the "Waldorf" (as Gilmore calls the East Ave. lunch room) to dinner. Laura Hutchison (in her pink waist!) and Mary & Nellie Mac came over and played Flinch & ate stuffed dates &c. It rained later. Apr. 6 Thurs. Snow this morning! But it improved later. Went to Cro'nest to dine tonight. Gellett Burgess is there and Dr. Crapsey dined with us. He is very nice. Had a very nice time. Ethel Mundy gave me a book plate she had designed for Kath Wilkinson - with "Carlie" on. Gellett told us about the house he made of packing cases (9 & 6 ft.) with stairs, across, windows, balconies &c. How Beatrice Herfed crawled up into it and couldn't get out till they took the roof off &c. &c. How it was haunted by the ghost of a dead mosquito. &c. &c. He also told about Miss Herfed's Post Office - & corresponding paraphernalia - wax flowers, necktie cigars &c. &c. (a regular "monologue") and the little theatre she has built - all com- plete - even to water boys and men calling carriage numbers! She must be pretty rich (in two ways!). Dr. Crapsey went
