Jan 1. Sun.
Gray day - and I've been inside all day. Slept late (and well) and after
breakfast &c. put away my Xmas things and "slicked up"
generally. About 12:15 or so had a call from Grace Dowling. She
looks very well (and was dressed well, too) and was entertaining, as usual.
Wants me to go to Indian Lake
in the Adirondacks next summer - She told me about her
last sum- mer's experiences there. I got dressed and read J.
Conrad's new book and ate Frank's
candy till dinner and very shortly after that Edith
came. I showed her all my things and we were upstairs talking when
Mary and Nellie came.
Mary brought me
calendar (W.F.) for a birthNew Years present and Mother a little
bowl for the cats milk (also worlds fair sample) I gave each of the girls one
of my Metropolitan portfolio pictures We talked till dusk when I lighted
all 4 candles (it made the room look so pretty) and Charlotte and
Hamilton came! Then we came down stairs of
course and had more visit.
Chat & the Skipper told me how delighted
Miss Crichton was with her "postal for
"Jack"
!"
