from the saw mills. When it got really dark we went below for Flinch (and a lecture on "card-playing" from the old Salvation Army violinist but at Little Current - where we arrived quite late- got out and walked about a bit and Mr. Colwell and Laura did a circus act on some barrels. The Governor's friend was very sick with some heart trouble and they took him to the Captains room and got a doctor &c. &c. Late to bed tonight (The Governor was up all night) Aug. 4. Thurs. I woke up about half-past four and looked out the window at "Killarney" where Con used to go and had a "girl". It looked like its pictures but these lumber towns are more or less alike from a boat. Went to bed again. It was quite rough as we get out in the "open" here. About breakfast time went up "French River" and Mr. Henderson and I took a picture of the three Chicago girls and "one little Indian" - standing above, on the boat, is the woman who talked to us on the dock at the "Soo" - waiting so long for the boat to come. There was a bear cub here just caught, a cute little thing done up in a box - not much but nose visible but "everything goes" on a dock. We get off & see the sights.
