Then came back and sat on the deck. Papa left us before the boat sailed (at 2:30) we found Buffalo Harbor very interesting and rather picturesque. The people on the boat not particularly promising. Just outside the harbor we met the "Tionesta" coming in (she's the "Japan's" big sister) It was lowery and rather horrid and pitchy too. (I didn't mind that!) Laura went to the stateroom to lie down and I found a nice upper deck and read. We had a very good supper and the best looking nager of the lot "(Kelly)" to wait. Some nice people. Mr. & Mrs. Foster of Pittston Pa. and Mrs. Morrow. Mr. F.

looks like President Teddy (only better looking) We arrived at Erie after dark. The approach was very pretty. The lights growing larger and more spread out as we stood in the bow watching. The Fosters invited us to walk up town with them (quite "up") We went around a few blocks and to the public square and hurried back because it sprinkled (and my shoe hurt!) July 24 Sun. Went to bed rather early. They loaded merchandise on till about 1:30 & then started off toward Cleveland. Slept pretty well for the first night out. A fine clearing morning. Breakfasted soon after seven (Western time) and went up on the nice hurricane deck
