July 22 Fri.
Still fine. Claude and
Char's fourth "anni- versary". Staid down to lunch -
at the
Mechanics Inst, and called on Chattie.
Jane Armstrong returns from Pt-an-B-
today. Dr. Hoyt left for there yesterday.
Chat was jolly & feeling OK. She will probably
go the 10th or 11th of August. I finished up all my work in fine shape at the
office - just like old times. Things have gone very smoothly while Gilmore has been away. Had quite a chat with
Lura
this p.m. and Laura was in - also with
Edith, over the 'phone. She says a
Miss Buck and her sister from the
Vacuum Oil Co. are going up the lakes on our boat tomorrow. Read &
did cash accts. tonight. Now I go & wash my hair (& me!)
July 23 Sat.
A rainy morning to start on our expedition, so that I got out my long coat and
wore it, instead of putting it in the sachel. It stopped some. Rode down in the
car with dear Claude. Mother
went to the station with us - and Papa to Buffalo.
Laura's brother Harry
came down with her. I weighed 143 and Laura 149. It didn't rain in
Buffalo, but was cloudy. We had quite a tramp, finding the
dock. A porter rushed and took our baggage. We got tickets to
Duluth and the good looking purser gave us Stateroom 30 on
the "Japan" (very small) where we left our big bags and then went back to the
Bronzel
