"Tess" 8/16/04.
They didn't stay late, on Barbara's and Edith's account. Kath and Mal Wilkinson came down in the evening. They are entertaining girls. Aug. 15 Mon. Bright and warm, was awfully busy. Went with Mal Wilkinson to the bank to identify her this noon. Herb called after dinner. Annie
and Barbara went this morning, on the train with Nan Moore. I was too busy to go down, unfortunately. Home tonight. Aug 16. Tues. Warmish and cloudy today. Staid down to lunch. Tonight went to see "Jessie" and "Paul" for the last time in "Tess of the D'uber- villes". Rather disappointing, tho' Angel and the three adorers in the second act was pretty good & the murder scene very good. It lasted late, and there was rain and a broken wire which delayed my car so I finally had to walk. In the night the pine this side of Cro'nest was struck by lightning. Mrs. Wilkinson saw it. Aug. 17. Wed. Warm and pleasant. Hurried home on my wheel at noon and actually took a nap after lunch Vacation is beginning to show. Flinch &c. tonight. Aug. 18. Thurs. Lovely weather. J.W. and Mrs. started for Buffalo in his big new Locomobile this p.m - but came back because it acted queer this side of Scottsville. Fixed my brown (traveling) skirt this evening, and washed my hair. Aug 19. Fri. Still lovely weather. Still busy. Sent off photos &c. Lunched at Sibleys and then rode out to give
