walk "out the Catskill road" and watched the beautiful sunset behind the lovely mountains and the last beam kissing "the Overlook" as we came away, Was pretty tired this evening and read and so on till the first excuse to go to bed. Sept. 5. Friday Really cold this morning - but beautiful. I was out before breakfast - and so was Gurdon - on horseback - about ten or so, after a good deal of visiting, Hattie

, Edith and I went to the village and did the morning shopping and then up through Berkeley Heights (or something like that) and down the Kingston Road to "Schoentag's" - a roadhouse - where we left the carriage and had the most delightful scramble over to the creek - crossed several ridges and went thro' a pine wood and up and down pre- cipitous places and sometimes almost perpendicular ones. Where we had to slide and hang on trees and "mountain climb" generally. Down at the bottom we took a picture or two. Edith and I had left Hattie
way up on the ridge, but when we came up the two worst and first places. there she was on top! had climbed down to wait for us! We got back down to the
