just after we'd passed the swamp, but we had umbrellas (and
's rubbers) and didn't mind. More rain tonight and a long
July 6 Sun.
It really cleared off in the afternoon - everyone but me expected
showers, but they didn't come. Julia
Papa and I went down
lots and got a boat at the old Carr
landing and all got in and rowed down below our woods
& got another boat (flat bottomed) and
Papa & I got in that. I rowed 'way
to the Lake and it was fine.
The creek very full and the marsh full of birds and blossoms
and the sky beautiful with clouds. Eagles sailing now and then (we
saw one unmistakably "bald") and red winged black birds. It was all
very beautiful. So was the beach and so were the sandbanks. Spent
the afternoon on the sand loafing, listening to the waves, watching
the fishing boats - chasing "gryphon" tracks - building quick- sand
caves and "potatoe bug traps"
