so on. After supper I sat out there a long time talking to cousin Carrie - who is up today - and watching the river - which is a source of endless delight. Last night a boat with a search light came by - and every night there are lighted boats and lighted trains and the beautiful stars and the gentle breezes. Later we played "bridge" inside, ate some candy and came to bed early. Sept.3 Wednesday A gorgeous morning - was up before six and scouting around the grounds and up the path toward the "Annex" to meet Alice and "Nan". The river was still and beautiful. The sky clear. The air chilly and crisp and after an early breakfast together we started off in the three-seater - Alice, Nan, Edith, Gurdon and I - with Clarence

to drive Jess and Sue and what a perfectly gorgeous ten mile drive it was up into the mountains! We reached Palenville at the foot of the big mountains at nine and over at "the Otis" left the carriage and Edith - who was to visit a friend in a hotel near there - and were hauled up the mountain at a frightful angle by a cable. It was almost like going up in a balloon. The ground sank away and the horizon rose up and pretty soon
