the piazza as usual - and was charming. Then we had a little music and I lay in the Nantucket hammock - with Alice the other end to - and cousin Carrie beside us, and talked and watched the river and the town and the trains and were happy till Nan carried Alice off to the shanty before ten and then Anna and Herb came out a little while, but I went up early - and sleepy! Sept. 8. Mon. Today was "the frosting on the top of the cake" - a perfect day and a delightful family picnic. We got up in a leisurely way and had breakfast ditto, before it was suggested out loud - and then we all flew around and helped - making sand- wiches and packing the lunch, the hammocks and wraps &c. &c. &c. Edith showed me some of her pictures and so on and we sat together with Gurdon between us - both ways - Clarence
drove us, in the "three seated" and Harriette
Nan and Alice were the other three, while with "Sally" and the buggy, Herbert, Anna & Barbara came another way - It was Barbara's first picnic. We went up thro' Quarryville and took the Blue Mountain road up to Plaaterskill Clove, above West Saugerties. The day was simply made to order and we played
