Ham's cottage is all up & the
Mosher's commenced.
Sept. 14 Monday
Really hot today. Helen was in -
delighted with her new duties at school - Edith
telephoned. Papa read aloud tonight.
Sept 15 Tues.
Spent most of the day writing up "St.
Helena" (for publication - ?) Went around to the library a
little while before supper. Tonight Edith
and I went to see "Orrin" in
"Hearts Courageous" - a costume play of the most extreme
type. The costumes (he wore six!) were really
gorgeous and the scenery and acting very good. The leading lady
and leading man very attractive - but the play - well - like them
all. After the duel scene in the second act they simply couldn't
stop clapping and the poor man almost broke his back bowing - He
certainly is a pretty boy - In the last act is a marriage scene
(they repeat the service to each other, in a ruined church) which it seems
to me might really be a marriage. The girl - Maud Fealy
- is the Maude Adams
style - Mr. Hart was good as Patrick Henry.
Orrin Johnson's sister & her husband and two other ladies
in white (one Mrs. Whitney?) were in a box.
