Sun. Aug. 31. Quite a warm morning. Got up at the usual time and the expressman came for my trunk before I was dressed. Put up a lunch and dear Mother and Zozie saw me off from the front piazza, Papa chased me with the lunch box and Trudy went to the station with me. The 10:57 train was late - (about 11:20) It was a warm dusty journey most of the way. Read "The Firm of Girdlestone" by Conan Doyle, and after Syracuse ate my nice lunch (chicken &c.) and in the afternoon enjoyed the perfectly beautiful Mohawk Valley with the canal just below and the river still further below - both glass calm except where the boats were. Got acquainted with a chatty brakeman and a little after six found Alice and Gurdon and the pair waiting for me at Saugerties and had a fine drive over to Obercliffe - so cool after the hot day! Cousin Carrie, "Nan" Moore, and Mrs. Caswell were on the piazza and Aunt Mio appeared and we all had supper on the cool dining room and spent the evening on the cooler piazza. Watching the boats and tows amd trains &c. Went bye-bye about 10:15 - unpacking first in my nice north room with a river view.
