The place we row for the milk in the "range light" - on the outside
island, about halfway to the hotel. The lighthouse man brings it
down in the evening when we light the range light and we row up and get it
out of the barrel and leave an empty pail. When we got back we found
Mr. McI
and
Mr. Evans on the piazza. They refused to eat or even
drink coffee, but waited till we did and made a long call (I washed all
the dishes while they were doing it & then had time to visit.)
Dressed up in my blue flannel waist afterward and took a walk thro' the
woods to
Chat's rock and on around the island -
where the path goes along the edge on the rocks and Hamilton has begun a bridge. It is very
pretty indeed. After a very good dinner - in fact, while we were still at
table - we 'spied the Hanson's sail boat in the
"offing" -(Mrs. H.
had rowed down Saturday to bring the clothes & told us they were
coming. Also told us about "Freddie
" - the two-year old baby - falling in the water and "bumping"
against the boat till his father saw him and pulled him out!) We
dashed about and slicked things up in no time, so we were immaculate when
