hours. The wind was strong and puffy - not good for this location - and grew stronger. It was fair down Bonaparte and Bragdon Bays (The latter is my favorite sailing ground) but as we went back, to get thro' to Sturgeon Bay, she gibed and broke one of the ropes holding the gaff and we had to put down the sail and go inshore. While H. fixed it Chattie and I (mostly C.) went blue-berrying. Then we started tacking up Sturgeon Bay - rather exciting with such puffy wind and plenty of shoals and reefs to look out for - but we all enjoyed it and were joking about the constantly re-appearing bunch of white birches on McIntosh's Island when up flopped the center board and we were high on a rock, just where the breeze came thro' zipping from the channel. It was necessary to put down the sail and pole good - but she only ground the harder- Is out stepped Hamilton on to the rocks and into the water almost to his waist and pulled with his hand, while I pushed with the pole, Chat managed the rudder & Kate looked after the sail!
