hotel rather late and had birch beer and ginger ale brought out to
the carriage and then hustled thro' the road back home to dinner - half
an hour too late. After dinner we sat in the sun on the warm side of
the piazza and played bridge a little and then went out
to the tennis court where Edith and
"Nan" were playing and "Bob" was playing tether ball -
(pretending to be Marion Smith - who didn't play very well -
and "Helen Boiler"!)
Edith and Nan borrowed her hat & Gurdon's and she said "Oh, see the cousins with other
cousins' hats on" and the other day she said she was going to have a
"second helping" of truth. "Hansiz" Ediths dachshund, ran away again, and I chased around the
grounds a little (after I'd walked with "Anna" up into Pine Lane for a
picture. And then I went to overtake Edith on her way to the "Cooney's" to get him and
didn't find her, so went on to the "sunset bars". When I got back callers
- Miss Corse
were on the piazza. It was a gorgeous day, all day, but quite cold, and after supper we all
sat around a lovely wood fire in the north living room, and later
had some bridge & character and "The Spinster
Book".
