Aug 13. Thurs.
Lovely day. Lura's birthday. Was too
ill to go to the office in the morning. Went to Dr.
Scranton's at noon and gave a "theatre party" this evening.
Chat came up here to supper & I also
invited
Mrs. Baker & Lura to see "Still Waters Run deep" the last
play of the Lyceum stock. Very good, too, especially
Mr. Truesdale, who takes the part of "John
Mildmay" who "lays low" (as
Emerich says) but does a good deal of
observing and finally shows he isn't so mild. It was more serious
them anything they've been doing & the part suited Mr. T.
nicely - All but 2 or 3 good ones in the company have been
weeded out. Went home with Chat, and
after crackers & cheese, slept in Helen's room.
Chat brought me a nice letter from Skipper
and a role of his film which turns out very well.
Aug 14 FridayZaza
has gone her vacation - To
Kennebunk. A fine day. Claude back and says the wedding was beautiful. Phoned to
Edith tonight and she made her
new music box go and I could hear it, playing "Hiawatha" -
Papa has been to
Albion today.
Aug 15 Sat.
Wrote tonight. Have some new white muslin curtains
Papa and Mama went to
Conesus - to "Wayback" this morning - Lunched with Edith at one and afterward went to the
band concert in South Park. We
sat and sewed under a tree while the band played
