Mon. Oct 5. Lovely morning. Rode down with Papa, who was starting for "Rainbow Lake" in the Adirondacks, to write up the Inn there - J.G.C. has been asked to be Mayor. Aldridge called on J.W. yesterday. Of course there were letters to write him. Went to the Mechanics Institute tonight and cooked "breakfast" with Zaza. She made the toast (burned it) and coffee (awful!) and I the Ralston Breakfast food (good!) and scrambled eggs (a little too salt) Miss Hammon (?) teaches us. It is fun. Tues. Oct. 6. Very lovely. Lura did go to N.Y. this morn- ing with Laura Hutchinson (She theatened to all day yesterday) I am so glad. I was writing "mayoralty" cablegrams till 10 min. to 2! Got back late, of course, wrote a long letter to J.G.C. and about 5 went to the Lake to dine with the Stull's (Mae telephoned this morning) It was cloudy - almost raining - by night, but the air soft and delightful. There was a nice fire in the grate and a nice supper and when the "boys" came we ate and looked at pictures (mine) &c
