milk and I "embroidered" till dark and we sat out in the moonlight.
Later we had George Ade, inside, and a bat call on us!
Aug. 1. Sat.
My dearest brother's birthday - The 37th (!) I had
neuralgia in the night, but oh! the morning was so beautiful - Absolutely still! I skipped down
to "Charlotte" before breakfast
to take my dear "Mandalay" across the
waters. The Howson's came - in two boats with a
man. And were disappointed in their cottage, but pleased with their
reception.
Mr. H.
is not an athlete but is a nice gentleman, who reminds me of
someone.
Mrs. H.
is big and talkative and cute and funny and entertaining and
"Arthurs" Mr. H.
very frequently. We shall enjoy them as neighbors. It was such a
nice morning, and so still - that I took the little boat and rowed
Chattie
up to the Pointefor the mail. She looked very
nice in Helen's big floppy hat. When we got out in
the open and saw "Barton Lodge" (McLean's place) in
the distance we decided to go there - and they could see us coming so
had time to "slick up" - Mattie
(looking pretty in a red waist turned in at the week) came to
meet us, also Miss Saxton & Mrs. McLean. The
man - Mr. Brown and Agnes Clare
had gone
