Pointe with them, which Hamilton, who took along the boat to row back. I was sorry
after- ward, for they had - some of them - a gorgeous sail out into
the open Bay - with big waves and things. Chat had meanwhile discovered another "mountain" on the
island (besides "Mt. Marie") and took me up on to it and we
named it "The Pinnacle". It has a water view and a woods view and is
beautiful. We had a nice talk. There is a mink on the island, which
we call "Marshall Ney" and his wife "Pauline"
("Nay. Nay. Pauline"!) and a squirrel
"Groutchy", and the twin pine trees at the south of the
piazza "Zoroaster and Zendavesta" and the one
over Chattie's room, "Charlotte's delight".
We had a nice welsh rabbit supper on the piazza, and then (rather
late) Chat and I rowed for the milk by
Hamilton's chart. I rowed up while
she steered by it, then I steered back from memory (the channel is rather
com- plicated at first). It was an ideal evening a lovely japanese
sky - all full of after- glow - the sort one always remembers - we
went up by the range light and sat upon a rock and watched it fade, as
late as we dared, for the milk wasn't there. When we got back
Helen was waiting on the dock
