Jan. 26. Tues. A blizzard, but I went to cooking school just the same. A mob of children from the public school classes - who had been giving a dinner - were just going. We toasted beef and browned potatoes and cooked turnips, and carrots and things. The meat was fine. Jan. 27. Wed. Lura told me, in confidence, today, of her troubles next door. Mr. Brown falling in love with Mrs. Coe and making Mrs. B.
very miserable - rows and protestations &c.&c. They are in an awful mess - and that Brown is a contemptible little thing and don't seem to care what he tells his wife or everyone! I suppose nothing will happen but it must be extremely unpleasant for all concerned. Jan 28 Thurs. Miss Blackall is going to leave. Her sister is to teach German at the West High School
and Zaza is to do her other "order works." Jan. 29. Fri. Feel rather "rocky" today - but very busy. Went to our church to a "business men's lunch" - carnations &c. James got 7th mention place in the Library competition! 4th mention- pretty good for one office! Edith came up and walked down the hill with me tonight. I worked some and read in the evening.
