and at 4 exactly we started down the
Clove, I sat in the front seat. The only stop was at the
spring - partway down - to wash and drink - and the whole trip was
gorgeous - late sunshine filtering thro' the
greenery, Then a cloud & so, and near the bottom the sense of
approaching night - We had a bright (but not sunny) and beautuful
ride all the rest of the way home (still another road!) but as we
looked back the big wall of mountains were over hung and capped with
cloud - At 6:30 we arrived, in time to eat supper with the family and
I found 4 letters waiting for me! Herb
was home, too, and we had a jolly evening with whist
and talk and charades &c.&c.
Sept. 7 Sun
A rainy morning - pouring, in fact, when I got up, and after
breakfast Herb made a nice fire in
the fireplace and we sat about and visited, and wrote letters and things
and I lay in the hammock and read a story in Harper's
and finally it cleared up beatifully and I took a walk with
Edith and Hansie and over by the
summer-
