go for a ride with me this p.m. but her wheel frame broke - She came later - slightly banged up - and we walked up to dear Cro'nest - which looked beautiful. Sat in the yard awhile and then I walked 'way down to Lyell Ave. with her and rode my wheel back - via West Avenue & Genessee St(!) where there was a fire - a small one. Spent the evening writing "poems". Oct. 12 Sunday Quite a bit has happened lately. The coal strike which has lasted all summer has become very serious because of cold snaps and no prospect of settlement. Coal that we paid $5.75 for in May they are selling (the few who have it at from $9.00 to $15.00 in very small lots and in N.Y. it's up toward $20 and very scarce. Soft coal has gone up too & people are using bricks soaked in oil and any old thing in their store. Claude and Charlotte have been getting ready for the wedding day, which will prob'ly be Nov. 3. The house is being papered. I tried to take a picture of it today, but think I fogged it putting in the slide. Con has been to Ogunquit & Malden and got back. Had a fine time, but bad weather, as usual for him - at Malden. Florence Biegler has been there too. Kate Davis has gone to Hamburg, Germany, (on the "Pretoria") for her
