July 18-19 Sat. Sun.
Showery. Was going down to Mae Stull's with
Edith Sat. p.m., but it rained, so staid
with
Mother - who was quilting, and
Papa read aloud from "Pendennis". Sunday
Edith phoned me, but I was too
tired toward night - when it had cleared off.
July 20. Mon.
Tonight Lura and I went up to see
Matie Hawley, who arrived with
Hobart
last Friday. She was the same as usual - Gay and talky.
Stopped at
July 21 Tues.Lura's coming back. Tuesday evening we went
to the Lyceum,
Lura & Mrs.
B.Mabel, Flor
, Matie & her mother,
Nellie & I, to see "The Prince of Liars"
(mostly Blakemore.) Jolly time.
July 22 Wed.
Last day at the office. Had a very black and a very hard
thunderstorm this noon - about the worst looking one I
ever saw - and it showered off and on all day.
Edith
stopped for me at five, and walked down while I got my ticket
&c. It had dried off. Con came over in
the evening and he and Mother went to
Charlotte with me. It had evidently been
pouring again there - but had cleared off and was beautiful. The
"Kingston" was in (we didn't go down till 10:20) and I got a very
nice outside stateroom on the starboard side, No.104. Really luxurious for
the lakes. I slept quite
July 23 Thurs.
a good deal after we started (1 a.m.) but it was almost too
smooth - only the jar of machinery (gentle
enough) and no lovely sea-motion - which I like when I'm in bed. The night
was bright and beautiful and I was my comfy, but got up by 6:30
