Chattie and I took the little boat and
went berrying, first to 2nd berry island, which is very picturesque and has a fine view of
"Sing-Sing", but no berries. Then we went back (after getting
lost once and prospecting a good deal in the beautifulness) to the
island between High and Howson's and Chat soon found a berry patch and we picked our pail
full - almost - in just two places. But they are liked buried
treasure and only an red berry-sleuth like Chat can find them. We got some huge ones. Then we
went back to St. Helena and still
Helen & the steamer came not, so I
looked the berries over and we wrote letters "against" tomorrow's
mail and finally the brown sail rounded "Wahbeck" and they came -
but no steamer, no letters - and no "steel boat". Had a delicious
supper of creamed salmon, creamed potatoes, &c. and about seven
the steamer came by and we were frantically waved to and saluted.
