walk, but "Danny Brown" his pretty little wife and two
children overtook me and invited me to ride, which I did.
Auntie,
Uncle & Papa were
all glad to see me. Jim
& Julia Maltby
were away. It seemed like old times. Dutch cheese for
supper &c&c. Also a few mosquitoes
July 5. Sat.
outside. Visited with Auntie till about 10 then
went to bed in the west room. It showered in the night & thundered
some and was raining hard in the morning, which lasted till nearly
noon. I read
MacClure &c. Jim & Julia Maltby came home this
forenoon (from Parish and Pulaski,
respectively.) Right after dinner it had cleared up enough so that
Papa and I walked over to
Selkirk and up the beach (after some lemonade
at Mr. "John's" - the Lighthouse) We read a
little Kipling and then went back to the river and
found George Bohanan
"The Mayor of Selkirk" catching fish for us.
He had caught 9, then I took the pole and caught the other 3 (all we
needed) and it looked so like rain we stopped - tho' the rock bass were
still biting - and went home. It rained
