[Mandalay]
the Howsons of Chillicothe,
who arrive today, are invited here to supper. I was asked to go along, but
had engaged to go "island shopping" with Mr.
Sing. H. & H. to stay to the hotel to dinner and
asked Mr. S. & I to join them, but I
declined. They call him my "steady" be- cause I have named Helen's "Jack" hers and we say this is
the day to see him again & for him to saddle her home (every
other day). I even give her an errand to the store - to buy tacks - which
she refuses indignantly (?) to do. I also quote the mouse story -
and - strange to relate! - Hamilton
has caught the fever and claims he found our one mouse one morning early in our water pail! Strange co-incidence! I didn't
see it.
Mr. Sing came early, about 9:30, and we
started sometime before Helen and
Hamilton did and had a long
"wander row" among the islands and I bought my "Mandalay". It is 87 1/2 of an acre
without the rocks in front which the surveyor will throw in. It is
numbered "G.1" (group G, no.1) and is in the group with beautiful "Clare",
The Cramer island (Helen's 2nd
choice) and "The Climbers". It has a fine high rock
