us hugely with an invitation of Mr.
Sing's serenade
Mr. M.
asked me to go paddling with him (and
Helen, of course) but I declined -
Helen went in for her sweater
and he asked me again and I found an excuse, but later, when
Helen came out, he insisted, and said he
had brought along a second paddle for me - so of course I went. It
was rather darksome and I didn't take the camera - rather to my re-
gret, as it lightened up later and I missed some "good shots". I was in
the bow, Helen
with her back to me, in the middle, and
Mr. M.
facing her - and they had great fun with me - I could almost
hear him smile and wink at her. First, no
one knew where the lilies were, but I remembered the passage
Mr. Sing had showed me, and astonishing
to say, I took them to the right place at once! Then we undertook to
get in, but big and little rocks interfered, till finally we had to back
out and the "heavy weights" disembark, at my suggestion. In getting
to land I got my foot wet to the ankle, which pleased "Jack
" very much, but I had my revenge, for after he got the
boat over and was trying to fix it so Helen could get out in, he got his
wet to the knee - and I said "Ha! Ha!!"
