perfect - but I suppose we ought to be thankful for any coal this winter. Papa is just back from Dansville - Jan 6. Tues. after a 3 day's trip. On Jan. 6th Amelie's boy arrived - big and healthy - 10 pounds, and she looks as well as possible and is coming home from Dr. Davis's tomorrow. Of course John Sr. is as proud as a Jan. 5. Mon. peacock. The day before - Monday - we had our Perfects at Lura's - and Matie was there (in Mary's place - she was sick) Mabel got first prize and Charlotte the booby - We had Welsh rabbits from Lura's & Helen's chafing dishes - very good. I wore my best silk dress - The Jan. 7 Wed. following Wednesday Mary telephoned me in the afternoon and we met and saw Amelia Bingham in "A Modern Magdalen". Gottschalk was funny and it was all im- mensely well acted - but the play wasn't as good as the "Climbers". Dixey made a great incompetent old humbug of a man "Cheerily, Jan. 9 Fri. Cheerily"! The Friday after I went to Claude's & Charlotte's to lunch - J.W. in N.Y.
