steps - which were moonlighty - and, there we sat and had a "heart
to heart" talk, till finally Alice
came out and Edith, took her
"object" in and Alice and I had a
lovely little talk till Nan came and hauled her off
to bed. Then Harriette
,
Edith, Hans and I had a sandwich and a
glass of milk and went "bye-bye" about 10.
Sept. 9 Tues.
A cloudy morning, but I had a try for a picture of Cousin Carrie
gathering nastertiums. Sat up
in Edith's room and read the parody on
"The Blessed Damozel" heClaude wrote her and Mary
Strong when they sent him the advertisement letter. I also
read her poem to Blodgett "Singing Chauncey" and his reply,
in cantos, very good - and other funny things. Drove over to
Saugerties with Harriette
, Anna
and Barbara and went to Mr. Irving
Elting's and looked at Colonial furniture for Claude.
In the house and stable both. It was
quite interesting, too. He had a couple of the old Mountain house
plates and some with a picture of Troy from
Mt. Ida, on. It began to rain while we were gone - and
poured
the rest of the day and evening. We played cards, talked, helped
