Jan. 10 Sun. Went up to Cro'nest this morning for some things Char wanted. It was warm & cozy and everything in apple-pie order. In the afternoon I took a long walk. First to Mary Mosher's (but she wasn't home) Then to Con & Edith's. They were just finishing dinner and made me stay for French coffee and cigarettes. I asked E. to copy off some verses she wrote when the plumbing froze! Later I went up to Chattie's and had supper. Helen was over to Frank's and when my car didn't come I stopped over for her. They seem very happy & comfy. Helen certainly isn't well and Chat worries about her a lot. Want her to go to Castile
&c. Chat and I had a nice visit Helen invited me to "St. Helena" again next summer. Jan 11. Mon. Papa read aloud from "Emmy Lou" tonight, while Motherand I worked. Claude and Jim went to the Kneisel Quartet. Jan 12. Tues. Stormy - Chat came up to supper and we went to "The Wizard of Oz" It was very funny but grew tiresome, it was so long. Besides, I was scared of fire - as every seat was taken. The lion, the scarecrow and the cow (Imogene)
were the star performers. Left Chat with
