1903.
Dec. 15 Tues. Stayed down to shop again, but spent most of my time at "Lotspike" getting waited on. There were three big fires in the factory district last night and one is still burning. Mr. Cutler
say John Stull is "all right" and will keep his place (I sent him word by Edith) He's to appoint Wm Webb Corporation Counsel tomorrow. The Skipper telephoned and invited me to go to the "Messiah" at the Central Church tonight with Charlotte & himself - So I did. She is very fine. Nina Hooker, Harry Thomas, Mr. Schlagel and Mrs. Raulpe had the solos - we sat right down under the viols. It was a Tuesday musicale business. Dec. 16. Wed. Fire of Monday night (St. Paul and Water St.) is still going. Fine shopping winter weather - sewed. Dec. 17 Thurs. Fine snowstorm. Spent my noon at the "Y" and had a long talk with Helen - all about the "Jane" business - Perfectly ridiculous! Dec. 18. Fri. Edith Hillman's 25th birthday and Mother gave a dinner for her. The Hillmans, Mr. Corse, the Bragdons from Cro'nest and Mrs. Wilkinson, Chat, Helen and "us". Miss Hubbell made a lovely birthday cake - which I put in the middle of the table - with red candles surrounding it and long sprays of holly, making a beautiful centerpiece - with ferns at the corners and a spray of red
