Editorial Note: May Bragdon's letter to Trudy about the Orphan Asylum fire, date : January 10, 1901. “…very kind and considerate-except a couple of horrid cigar puffing creatures-one especially from the Herald who came elbowing into the Behns’. Mr. Behn ordered him out of the house-and put him out-and the consequence was that the Behn family-who-as always outdid everyone in their kindness-were ignored in the reports! Theo saved some of the babies and so did the Caring boys-but there were so many who did-it’s almost unfair to mention one. Claude is home and went to bed feeling the worst he had, at all that night. Of course he got up but wasn’t able to do very much-and tho’ we none of us thought of bed till 5:30 or so…”
