“…one into
Behn’s-so we had nearly all the boys whose dormitory is in the
main part-and the women servants. Of course everyone rushed out and began trying to save or to
care for the children.
Mama and I spent
the night-or a good deal of it rushing back and forth to
Behn’s with bed clothes to wrap the children in (no one in the park had anything to go to bed
with when the time came) getting ammonia, bandages, pins, coffee, milk,
finding children “when we could—alas!) for frantic parents and friends-getting sick and [illegible] ones ready for the ambulance [illegible] came right up on our sidewalk-[illegible]
