toward the lake – going thro’ the new park on the way. The afternoon
was lovely and the hills were beautiful – especially ‘way off in the
Southeast. After we brought the horse back, and before supper, we walked
down and saw the river, the falls, the log booms and saw mills – and
the location of the cave in
“The Last of the Mohicans”.
More calls after supper. Miss Boyd, Miss
Tuttle, Miss Lane, &c.
Mrs. Strong – (very talkative & funny) I had a
nice visit with Mrs. Braley – who seems
very nice.
Frances visited me all the p.m – a
little chatterbox full of questions. The baby, Donald, is fat and lovely.
July 8. Sat.
We had decided to take the early train this morning, so as to have a
little time in Saratoga. It looked rather dubious
when we got up and by the time we were ready to go it was pouring – a summer thunder shower, which we
thought would pass over. But it didn’t. It still rained so at
Saratoga that we didn’t think of attempting to
leave the temporary station for an hour. Here we found some friends of the
Braley's, whom Gertrude knew, Mr. & Mrs.
Colver
& son Fredrick
& Miss Elsie Clark
of Cresskill, N.J. They were going to
Blue Mt. Lake
and seemed much pleased that we were going the same way. After a
little we 4 girls & Mr. Colver
stared out and visited the park and drank Congress
1899
