Sept. 4 Wed.
Another lovely day – Saw Lura &
tonight went to Arnold's. Matie came home with Ray – for an
operation for appendicitis but he got better and didn’t
have it – Had a nice visit with Mrs. Arnold and
Mrs. Castle (just home from Kalaria) She says Mrs. Barnum had a
relapse and is to be sent home today and directly to the hospital.
I am afraid she’s too weak for that!

Hutchinson were up there & we had quite a nice
time. Wrote to Gertrude and
Kate

Saw Frank Davis this p.m. and he
told me all about the good time he & Charlotte had at Viamede
and showed me his 4 dozen negatives!
Sept. 13. Friday
An unlucky day! And we hear tonight the
President is actually dying – after days of hope &
yesterday reports of positive recovery. He was shot a week ago today at
the Pan American by
Fred Cloz? – well, I can’t spell it – and nothing but news
from Buffalo has been any good since. I’ve been
having eyes tested and glasses &c. with Dr.
Bissell & go again tomorrow. Have also ordered a tailor
made suit & got my
