Jan 1. Mon.
Another lovely winter day – Good sleighing and all that – like
yesterday – Got up betimes so Mother could go to 9:30 prayers meeting – & spent the
morning fixing my green flannel waist watching the “Knights” &
people go to the Orphan Asylum.
Mary was up a little while – Edith
was up yesterday, while I was at church and said her Aunt Martha
died Saturday this p.m. Mary &
I went to see “His Excellency the Governor” – a clever &
delightfully acted little comedy. Ethel Barrymore was
in it – as charming as ever – and other actors equally good. Came home
& got into my wrapper & bega read
“The Jessamy Bride” – Mary Strong
gave Claude – very good. We heard from
Con yesterday. It’s all he can do to keep
from marrying his old sweet heart & he's evidently enjoying life
out there. This has been a happy day & I love my home and family
& my cozy room and the whole cozy house. I ought to be a
“contented woman” in spite of the troubles – little & big that now
& then arise — and I mean to be.
